How to taste water

Temperature, glassware and the order of a flight.

Tasting water is like tasting wine, only quieter. A few habits make the differences easy to notice.

Temperature

Serve cool, not ice cold. Cold mutes minerals. No ice, which adds its own water.

Glass

Use the same plain, clean glass for every water so the only variable is the water.

Order

Go from low TDS to high, and still before sparkling. A very mineral water first will flatten everything after it.

What to notice

  • Weight: does it feel thin or full?
  • Finish: does it vanish, or leave something dry, salty or chalky behind?
  • Bubbles: fine and creamy, or big and sharp?

Our tasting notes on each water page will use the same three words: weight, finish and bubbles.
